Thermal Management of Electronics: Heat Sinks, Fans, Liquid Cooling and Where Each Runs Out
Thermal management of electronics means keeping the electronic components inside an electronic device below the temperature their datasheets allow, in the hottest air they will actually see. The methods form a ladder:…

Case Study: Evaluating a Custom 910mm EC Axial Fan for an Ohio Transformer Manufacturer
In late June 2026, the buyer at a dry-type transformer manufacturer in Ohio sent us a short request. They needed 910mm EC axial fans (roughly a 36-inch fan) that could deliver at…

Shaded Pole Motor: What It Is, How It Works, and When to Use One
A shaded pole motor is a single-phase AC induction motor with no run capacitor and no start switch, and its peak efficiency runs 20 to 40%, per a 2015 U.S. Department of…

Micro Fan Guide: How to Size and Mount Small DC Fans
A micro fan is a small DC axial cooling fan, sized from 20mm to 92mm square, built for embedded electronics and compact equipment where a standard-frame fan will not fit. This guide…

Rear Door Heat Exchangers: How EC and DC Centrifugal Fans Fit In
What Is a Rear Door Heat Exchanger, and Why Are Data Centers Adding Them? A rear door heat exchanger (RDHx) mounts to the back of a server rack and cools server exhaust…

Data Center Dry Coolers: How They Work and Why Fan Arrays Matter
A dry cooler is a closed-loop heat exchanger that rejects heat to outdoor air by pushing air across finned coils with fans, without evaporating water. In a data center, it sits on…

Adiabatic Cooling: How It Works, Where It’s Used, and Where EC Fans Fit In
Adiabatic cooling uses water evaporation to lower air temperature before that air removes heat from industrial equipment. In the dry coolers and condensers covered here, ambient air passes through a wetted pad…

Demand Controlled Ventilation (DCV): How It Works, What It Requires, and Where EC Fans Fit In
Demand controlled ventilation, or DCV, adjusts outdoor airflow in response to measured occupancy or indoor air quality signals. It is not the same as VAV or economizer control, which respond to different…

3D Printer Cooling Fan: Positions, Specs, and Replacement Guide
A lot of 3D printer fan upgrades start with the wrong diagnosis. You see sagging bridges, a noisy toolhead, or a mid-print extrusion stop, then you order the fan size that showed…

Reverse Rotation on a Centrifugal Fan: Why It Happens and How to Fix It
Reverse rotation on a centrifugal fan means the wheel is spinning opposite the intended rotation marked by the manufacturer. It usually does not make the fan blow backward. It makes the fan…

Why an EC Fan Runs at Full Speed, Won’t Start, or Ignores 0-10V Control
Before you open any wiring box. EC fans store energy in their DC-link capacitors. Even after you cut mains power, the DC bus can sit at roughly 325V DC or 560V DC…

How to Control an EC Fan: 0-10V, PWM, and Modbus Explained
Once the fan is selected, the next question is what signal the controller should send. For HVAC fans, the answer is usually: 0-10V, PWM, or Modbus RS485. This guide is for HVAC,…
