FK33 and FK88 Filter Fan Series

We mold the FK33 and FK88 filter frames in our own injection molding shop, not through an outsourced supplier. The same tooling and the same production line produce both the sample you test and the units in a bulk order, so the frame fit, cutout tolerance and panel-latch mechanism you evaluate on a sample do not shift when the order moves to volume production.

FK33 and FK88 are two front-panel constructions within the same enclosure filter fan category. Selection should be based on the required size, voltage, airflow and maintenance access. It should not be based on an unsupported claim that one family is universally higher-performing.

Both series include multiple sizes and standard voltage choices. Specific airflow, current, power and noise must be read from the selected model row. Do not infer that FK88 has more airflow, a higher IP rating, lower noise or longer life solely from the front-panel design.

Compare series construction, variants and maintenance access

How to compare the two series

Confirm the frame or cutout size and voltage before comparing model rows against the airflow duty. Use published with-filter figures where available. After those requirements are met, compare front-panel construction and maintenance access.

FK33 includes selected -B alternative-grille variants and selected -D larger-fan variants. FK88 has selected -D variants but no listed -B range. These suffixes are model-specific; they are not evidence that every size exists in every construction. The complete table remains the authority for availability and data.

For maintenance planning, consider how often technicians can reach the front of the installed cabinet and whether filter checks are part of routine service. FK88's opening panel can make that task more convenient, while FK33 remains a valid choice wherever its construction, dimensions and published specifications meet the project.

Free-air values are not installed-airflow guarantees. Review the complete Airflow with filter column where available and confirm system resistance. A blank value is unknown, not zero and not permission to copy a related AC value into a DC row.

An IP54 filter fan description applies to the listed assembly rating; it does not upgrade the completed cabinet to NEMA 4/4X. Buyers searching for a 250mm fan filter should specify the actual 255 mm family and cutout in the RFQ. The table also retains the 208 mm FK3325 standard size so those two product points are not merged.

Use the enclosure filter fan selector after confirming airflow, voltage, cutout or an existing model.

A .300 model is a fanless outlet filter unit. It provides a filtered discharge opening and does not contain a motor.

  1. 01

    Match the family

Use the corresponding base family and panel size for the powered unit and outlet.

  2. 02

    Confirm both openings

Approve the intake and outlet cutouts before the panel drawing is released.

  3. 03

    Quote both quantities

List powered units, .300 outlets and spare filter mats as separate RFQ lines.

.300 is fanless. If powered exhaust is required, state that requirement separately.

Filter Fan Starting Points by Cabinet Application

The examples below are starting points for comparison, not automatic model recommendations. Confirm airflow, cutout, voltage, filter resistance and environment before ordering. They cover the search language buyers use, including cabinet filter fan, cabinet fan filter, control panel fan filter and electrical panel fan filter. Those phrases do not describe four different product types.

Enclosure filter fan installed on an industrial electrical control panel
Filter Fan Installed on a Control Panel
Filter fan ventilation installed on an industrial electrical cabinet
Filter Fan for an Industrial Electrical Cabinet

Compact electrical boxes

FK3320 and FK3321 are starting sizes for compact enclosures.

Application notes

FK3320 and FK3321 are starting sizes for compact enclosures. FK3320.230 has a listed 106.5 × 106.5 × 52 mm outer size, 82 × 82 mm cutout and 22/26 m³/h airflow. Send the actual panel opening; the product face alone is not enough for selection.

Small enclosures can still have concentrated heat sources and restricted internal passages. Check the heat-load distribution, wire ducts and clearance behind the panel before assuming that the smallest frame is sufficient. A compact frame is useful only when its verified airflow and cutout fit the enclosure.

PLC and automation control panels

PLC cabinets may contain power supplies, contactors, relays and I/O hardware with changing loads.

Application notes

PLC cabinets may contain power supplies, contactors, relays and I/O hardware with changing loads. FK3321, FK3322 and FK3323 are common size families to compare after the duty point is known. For diagnosis beyond product selection, read about PLC cabinet overheating.

For an automation buyer, a PLC cabinet cooling fan filter or control panel fan filter must also fit the panel layout and maintenance plan. Share a drawing if cable ducts, HMIs or door hardware limit the mounting area. Cabinet width alone does not define the available cutout.

VFD and inverter cabinets

VFD and inverter loads can require greater attention to heat generation and airflow layout.

Application notes

VFD and inverter loads can require greater attention to heat generation and airflow layout. Mid-size FK3323/FK3325 families may be compared, but the correct cooling method and airflow must be calculated for the project. See VFD enclosure cooling and inverter cabinet cooling fans.

Telecom and 5G cabinets

Telecom cabinets may call for 12–24VDC models, but outdoor exposure cannot be approved from voltage and IP54 alone.

Application notes

Telecom cabinets may call for 12–24VDC models, but outdoor exposure cannot be approved from voltage and IP54 alone. Confirm rain, dust, corrosion, solar load and sealing requirements. See telecom cabinet cooling solutions.

Outdoor and industrial electrical cabinets

A larger electrical enclosure filter fan such as an FK3326/FK8826 family may be considered when the duty and panel size justify it.

Application notes

A larger electrical enclosure filter fan such as an FK3326/FK8826 family may be considered when the duty and panel size justify it. IP54 does not mean that every roadside, rooftop, washdown, oily or corrosive location is acceptable. A sealed or closed-loop method may be required.

The phrase industrial filter fans covers widely different sites. State whether the cabinet is indoors or outdoors and describe dust, moisture, oil mist, chemicals and cleaning practices. That environment description is as important as the nominal airflow when deciding whether open-loop filtration is acceptable.

Higher-airflow or maintenance-sensitive projects

Selected -D variants use a larger fan for higher listed free-air performance.

Application notes

Selected -D variants use a larger fan for higher listed free-air performance. Projects that prioritize front filter access can compare FK88 construction. In both cases, use the published model data and request engineering review where with-filter or DC data is not published.

06 / Buying checks

What Buyers Need to Confirm Before Ordering

An enclosure filter fan is not selected by the visible grille size alone. The following checks prevent avoidable panel rework, incomplete airflow paths and quotation delays.

  1. Confirm the Mounting Cutout

Send the actual mounting cutout, not only the visible frame size.

    Details

The product face, internal fan and panel opening are different dimensions. Before cutting sheet metal or approving a batch, confirm the actual mounting cutout. For example, FK3320.230 has a listed outer size of 106.5 × 106.5 × 52 mm and an 82 × 82 mm cutout. A project that sends only a fan size or front-panel measurement may still be missing the dimension needed for installation.

  2. Plan the Air Outlet

Quote the powered intake and matching fanless outlet together.

    Details

A powered intake unit needs a clear outlet path. Each listed size can be paired with a same-size .300 fanless outlet filter unit. Confirming the powered unit and outlet together reduces the risk of a second purchase order or a late panel change.

  3. Define Required Airflow

Use the required duty point, not only a free-air catalog value.

    Details

Required airflow depends on the heat load, permissible temperature rise and the actual air path. Published free-air values are not the same as installed airflow through a filter and cabinet. If no duty point is available, use the enclosure airflow calculator; if one is available, use it as a preliminary input for the selector and then confirm the system resistance.

  4. Complete the RFQ Details

Add quantity, destination, delivery timing and customization.

    Details

A usable quotation needs more than a model. Include quantity, sample or bulk requirement, destination, desired delivery date and customization. MOQ starts from 10 pieces depending on model and customization. Samples are available and usually require 2–3 days for preparation. Standard lead time is generally 3–10 days subject to model, quantity and stock status; OEM or custom orders are typically 5–15 days depending on the work required.

For freight planning, the quotation can include carton count, gross and net weight, carton dimensions and packed-cargo photos. Packing figures on this page are carton-level references, not fixed container-loading promises.

07 / Definition

What Is an Enclosure Filter Fan?

An enclosure filter fan is a panel-mounted fan and filter assembly used to move ambient air through an electrical enclosure. Filter fans for enclosures support open-loop cooling by admitting filtered air through one side of a cabinet and allowing warm air to leave through a controlled outlet. The terms enclosure fan filter and filter fan are often used for the same industrial product category.

Terminology, scope and RFQ definitions
Term Meaning on this page Included here?
Enclosure filter fan Powered, filtered ventilation unit for a cabinet or control panel Yes
Fan filter Common wording that may also describe unrelated consumer filters Only when the industrial context is clear
Filter fan mat Replaceable filter medium used in the assembly As a replacement/maintenance item
Fan filter unit / FFU Usually a cleanroom ceiling air unit in search results No

This page does not cover HEPA cleanroom FFUs, charcoal filters, ceiling-fan filters or DIY box-fan products.

The assembly normally combines a powered axial fan, protective grille, replaceable filter mat and panel-mounting frame. The filter reduces the entry of larger airborne contamination while the fan maintains forced ventilation. It does not make an enclosure airtight or eliminate the need to assess heat load, air resistance and environmental exposure.

Terminology matters during an RFQ. “Fan size” may refer to the internal axial fan, visible frame or cutout, so send a drawing or measured opening. “Airflow” should state whether it is a required duty point, free-air catalog figure or value measured with the filter fitted. These distinctions let purchasing and engineering discuss the same product without relying on an ambiguous category name.

08 / Cooling method

When a Filter Fan Is the Right Cooling Method

A filter fan may fit when

A filter fan is a practical starting point when the enclosure can be cooled with ambient air, the surrounding air is acceptable after filtration and the equipment permits open-loop ventilation. Typical applications include control panels, PLC cabinets and other enclosures where heat must be carried out continuously without a closed refrigeration circuit.

Review another method when

A filter fan may not be suitable when ambient temperature is above the target internal temperature, the cabinet must remain sealed, or the environment contains heavy dust, conductive particles, oil mist, corrosive vapor or direct weather exposure beyond the verified protection boundary. IP54 does not automatically equal NEMA 4 or NEMA 4X.

Bigger is not automatically better. A large free-air number cannot compensate for the wrong cutout, an undersized outlet, an obstructed flow path or a loaded filter mat. Start with the cooling method and duty point, then confirm cutout, voltage and system resistance.

For a comparison of enclosure cooling methods, see the electrical enclosure cooling guide. For rating boundaries, see NEMA and IP enclosure ratings.

More cooling-method checks

Before choosing open-loop ventilation, compare the hottest expected ambient condition with the maximum acceptable cabinet temperature. Confirm that the incoming air will not introduce contamination that the filter and enclosure cannot manage. Also check that internal devices do not block the path between intake and outlet. These are method-level checks; they do not require turning this product page into a full thermal-design guide.

When the ambient conditions and temperature relationship are acceptable, a filter fan can provide the required open-loop airflow. If either condition fails, a higher nominal airflow may introduce unsuitable air or still miss the target temperature. Review a heat exchanger, enclosure air conditioner or another closed-loop method before requesting a filter-fan model.

09 / Engineering note

Confirm These 4 Inputs Before Model Selection

Start with the panel opening, electrical supply, airflow duty and complete cabinet air path. This avoids model-name guessing and late panel rework.

  1. 01

    Mounting cutout

Send the available panel opening or a dimension drawing.

  2. 02

    Supply voltage

    Use listed 115VAC, 230VAC or 12–24VDC; 380V and 48V remain on request.

  3. 03

    Required airflow

Send the duty point, or calculate it from heat load and temperature inputs.

  4. 04

    Complete air path

Confirm the powered intake and matching fanless outlet arrangement.

Tool results are preliminary. Final confirmation must consider the actual filter and system resistance.

10 / Maintenance

Filter Mat Replacement and Maintenance

A filter mat protects the enclosure airflow path, but dust loading also adds resistance and reduces delivered airflow. Set the inspection interval from the actual site conditions; one interval will not fit every installation. A clean indoor panel and a dusty industrial cabinet will not load the filter at the same rate.

Filter inspection, replacement and spare-mat notes

FK88 uses a latch/button front panel that can be opened for easier access to the filter mat. Replacement mats can be quoted separately by FK model. When planning the first order, identify the operating environment and ask whether spare mats should ship with the powered units. Availability and quantity must be confirmed with the quotation; this page does not imply permanent stock.

What to check during maintenance

Inspect the fan filter mat for visible loading, damage and poor seating. Also check whether airflow openings are blocked, whether warm air is recirculating toward the intake and whether the outlet mat is loading at a different rate. Replace a damaged or heavily loaded mat; do not try to recover performance from an obstructed airflow path.

Use the exact FK model when requesting a replacement. Frame size alone may not identify every housing or mat requirement. If an order covers several enclosure types, list the model and spare quantity for each one so that powered units, .300 outlets and replacement mats remain traceable during maintenance.

For intake/outlet position and recirculation considerations, see enclosure fan filter placement.

Certification documents

CE documents are available with an inquiry. ISO quality-management documentation can be confirmed during quotation. Until formal files are supplied for publication, this page will not show certificate numbers, declaration-of-conformity links or certificate images.

IP54 boundary

All listed FK33/FK88 filter fan models are described as IP54. IP54 must not be represented as NEMA 4 or NEMA 4X, and it does not by itself approve a cabinet for direct weather, washdown, oil mist or corrosive exposure.

Materials and operating conditions

The listed frame material is ABS. Standard colors are RAL7035 and RAL7032; other colors are available on request. The confirmed operating-temperature range is -10°C to +55°C.

Documents and pre-shipment confirmation

Depending on the inquiry, support can include a datasheet, dimension drawing, CE documentation, ISO-related documentation, packing information and model/voltage confirmation. Before shipment, the order can be checked for model, voltage, quantity, carton count, gross/net weight, carton dimensions and packed-cargo photos.

Document-control and pre-shipment detail

No unverified certificate number, AQL level, test result or customer approval will be added to this page.

For document-controlled projects, list the exact files required with the RFQ so their availability can be checked before order confirmation. A general CE statement does not replace a customer-specific document list, and an IP rating does not replace review of the completed enclosure.

QC support should be described through records that can actually be supplied for the order: model and voltage confirmation, dimensions, packing details and agreed document copies. Do not turn a general pre-shipment check into an invented test protocol. Any special inspection, sampling level or customer witness point must be agreed in the quotation before it appears as a commitment.

Freight-estimate formulas

  • Cartons needed = ceiling(order quantity ÷ pieces per carton)
  • Estimated CBM = cartons needed × CBM per carton

These formulas estimate carton volume only. They do not state fixed 20GP, 40GP or 40HQ loading quantities. Final loading depends on mixed models, pallets, stacking, weight limits and the freight forwarder's plan.

For a budgeting example, 100 pieces of FK3323.230 at 20 pieces per carton require 5 cartons. Using the listed 0.1158 CBM per carton gives an estimated carton volume of 0.579 CBM. The listed carton gross weight gives 88 kg before any pallet or additional export packing. This is arithmetic from the current carton table, not a freight quote or guaranteed loading plan.

Payment terms can be confirmed with the quotation. Shipping terms and the applicable FOB port can be confirmed with the quotation.

Request a Model, Price and Packing Quote

When requesting a freight estimate, state whether models will be mixed and whether pallets are required. The carton table can estimate volume for one listed item, but final shipment planning must account for the actual model mix, carton rounding and forwarder requirements. A final PI or shipping file should therefore supersede the budgeting calculation shown here.

2–3 daysSample preparation
3–10 daysStandard lead time
5–15 daysOEM/custom lead time

Proventofan manufactures FK33 and FK88 enclosure filter fans for standard orders, samples and project-based customization. Standard catalog orders have a MOQ starting from 10 pieces; OEM custom-specification and private-label orders have a MOQ of 50 pieces. Standard lead time is usually 3–10 days subject to model, quantity and stock status. OEM/custom orders take 5–15 days depending on the requested changes.

OEM scope, samples and custom-voltage notes

When comparing an enclosure filter fan manufacturer or filter fan supplier, check whether the quotation connects product data with order details. Use the same model reference for samples, bulk orders, outlet units, replacement mats, carton information and customization.

Samples are available, and sample preparation usually takes 2–3 days. Standard colors are RAL7035 and RAL7032; custom colors are available on request. A one-year warranty applies under the confirmed quotation and order terms.

OEM scope must be defined before lead time is confirmed. State whether the request changes only color/labeling or also voltage, fan configuration, packaging or documentation. A sample approval does not authorize unlisted performance claims, and production specifications should remain tied to the reviewed model and drawing.

Listed standard voltage options are 115VAC, 230VAC and 12–24VDC. Custom 380V and 48V options can be discussed on request after the model, airflow target, quantity and electrical requirements are confirmed. No unpublished current, power, noise or airflow value is implied for those custom options.

RFQ checklist

Send the mounting cutout, voltage, required airflow, quantity, application environment, .300 outlet requirement, color, custom voltage and target delivery date. Include a cabinet drawing when possible.

Payment terms can be confirmed with the quotation. Shipping terms and the applicable FOB port can be confirmed with the quotation.

15 / FAQ

Enclosure Filter Fan FAQ

What is an enclosure filter fan?

An enclosure filter fan is a panel-mounted fan and filter assembly that moves ambient air through an electrical cabinet. Filter fans for enclosures support open-loop ventilation: the powered unit moves filtered air, while a controlled outlet allows heated air to leave. They are not cleanroom fan filter units or sealed-cabinet cooling systems.

What is the difference between a filter fan and a fan filter?

In an electrical-cabinet context, both terms may describe the same filtered ventilation product. However, “fan filter” search results also include consumer filters and cleanroom equipment. This page uses “enclosure filter fan” to identify the industrial panel-mounted powered assembly clearly.

What is the difference between FK33 and FK88 filter fans?

FK33 and FK88 use different front-panel constructions. FK88 has latch/button access that allows the front panel to open for more convenient filter-mat replacement. This structural difference does not by itself mean that FK88 has higher airflow, lower noise, longer life or a higher IP rating; compare the selected model data.

When should I use a filter fan for an electrical enclosure?

Use a filter fan when ambient air can remove the heat, the environment is acceptable after filtration and open-loop ventilation is permitted. Consider another cooling method when the enclosure must remain sealed, ambient temperature exceeds the target internal temperature, or dust, oil, corrosion or weather exposure exceeds the verified boundary.

What size filter fan do I need for an electrical cabinet?

Start with required airflow, mounting cutout, voltage and the resistance of the filter and cabinet path. Do not select only from the visible frame size or free-air number. Calculate a preliminary airflow duty in CCT1, screen candidates in CCT2 and request human review before cutting the panel or ordering a batch.

What cutout size should I send for a filter fan quote?

Send the actual panel opening or mounting cutout, not only the front-frame or internal fan size. For example, FK3320.230 has a 106.5 × 106.5 × 52 mm outer size and an 82 × 82 mm cutout. A drawing is preferred when the panel has limited clearance.

Should the filter fan be used for intake or exhaust?

A common arrangement uses the powered filter fan as a lower intake and a fanless outlet filter at the opposite upper side. The final position depends on heat sources, obstructions and recirculation risk. Review the enclosure fan filter placement guide before fixing the cutouts.

What is a .300 outlet filter unit?

A .300 unit is a fanless outlet filter containing the matching housing, grille and filter mat without a powered fan. It is installed on the cabinet outlet side and paired by size with the powered intake unit. It must not be described or priced as an exhaust fan.

How often should a fan filter mat be replaced, and can replacements be ordered separately?

Inspect and replace the mat according to actual dust loading and airflow condition; there is no universal interval for every cabinet. Replacement mats can be quoted separately by FK model. FK88's opening front panel provides more convenient access where regular maintenance is a priority.

Can an IP54 filter fan be used outdoors or in a NEMA 4/4X enclosure?

IP54 alone does not confirm suitability for every outdoor location and is not equivalent to NEMA 4 or NEMA 4X. Rain, washdown, conductive dust, oil mist, corrosion, solar load and the completed enclosure design must be reviewed. A sealed or closed-loop cooling method may be required.

Are 115V, 230V and DC filter fans available?

Yes. Listed standard options include 115VAC, 230VAC and 12–24VDC, subject to the selected model row. Custom 380V and 48V options remain available on request; their performance and electrical data must be confirmed for the project and are not inferred from standard models.

Do you supply OEM or custom filter fans?

Yes. Standard catalog orders have a MOQ starting from 10 pieces; OEM custom-specification and private-label orders have a MOQ of 50 pieces. Standard lead time is usually 3–10 days, while OEM/custom work generally takes 5–15 days depending on details. Samples are available and usually take 2–3 days to prepare. Custom colors and voltages require quotation review.

Do you provide filter fan price ranges and packing data?

Yes. This page publishes reference price ranges and carton-level packing for listed FK33 powered units and matching .300 outlet units. Prices are for budgeting, not fixed offers. Container quantities are not claimed; use pieces per carton and CBM per carton for a preliminary freight estimate.

What information should I send for a filter fan quote?

Send the mounting cutout, voltage, required airflow, quantity, cabinet application, ambient conditions and whether a matching .300 outlet unit is needed. Add color, custom voltage, sample/bulk requirement, destination and target delivery date. Payment and applicable FOB terms are confirmed with the quotation.

Related Enclosure Cooling Guides and Tools

Choose the next page by task. Start with the main guide for a cooling-method decision. Use the calculation article or CCT1 for a required airflow, and use CCT2 when airflow, voltage or cutout is already known. The placement and NEMA/IP guides cover installation and rating questions in greater depth.

For an existing cabinet, gather the cutout, voltage and current model before opening the selection guide. For a new cabinet, calculate the airflow first and then compare candidate frame sizes. If the site requires a sealed enclosure or a rating beyond IP54, review the method and rating guides before requesting an FK33 or FK88 quotation.
